Ice Boy by David Ezra Stein
Ice Boy lived with his family in the freezer. To be chosen as an ice cube for someone's cream soda was an incredible honor! But he wanted more than just to be a cooling agent for someone's soft drink. He wanted to know what else was beyond the freezer door. Once outside, Ice Boy discovered the sun and the beach and how amazing they were. As he began to melt, he ran into the ocean and become Water Boy! Water Boy rode the waves and washed in with the tide soaking a beach towel. As the towel began to dry, he turned into Vapor Boy. Traveling into the sky above a thunderstorm, Vapor Boy turned into a droplet and eventually into ice. During the storm he fell back to earth as hail, plopping in someone's drink where he is reunited with his family. Stein creates a great introduction to learning about the water cycle through Ice Boy's adventure. It's a great read-aloud, that has funny moments and clever illustrations. Great for teachers looking for STEM books and an introduction to the water cycle. Also great for story time.
